The Lake Dillon Loop – Biking Around Lake Dillon

Enjoy road biking around one of Summit County’s best and most beautiful amenities – Lake Dillon. September is the perfect time for an early fall ride. Choose to stop along the way for spectacular lake and mountain views from the Frisco Marina, Lake Dillon Marina and Sapphire Point or just power through and check out glimpses along the way.

This 18 mile/1200’ climb ride has one major climb and decent over Swan Mountain Road. The last .4 miles of climbing up Swan Mountain plus two miles of descent are on a stretch of the road with no shoulder. This stretch of the road is narrow and can be dangerous. Bikers should be aware of traffic.

Begin at the Frisco Marina, starting the path across from the Frisco Cemetery. Follow along past the Middle School and wind around the shoreline of Lake Dillon.

The path then heads toward Dillon along the Dam Road eventually crossing the Dam. Veer right towards Dillon and merge onto Lodgepole Road into Dillon following along past Dillon Marina. The path will then parallel Highway 6 along the lake. Bikers will cross the Snake River and will then take a right at the Y in the path, following the signs to Breckenridge.

Cross Swan Mountain Road and head into Summit Cove where you’ll see a new section of trail being built as you head to the right onto Summit Boulevard. Take a right after the bridge onto Royal Coachman Drive. Follow the road before meeting up with a newer section of trail on your right. This trail will take you to Sapphire Point and will cross over Swan Mountain Road. Be very careful crossing at this intersection. Once to Sapphire Point, the remaining stretch of the ride on Swan Mountain is downhill on the road with minimal shoulder. Use caution when descending on this portion of the loop.

Stay straight through the stoplight at the bottom of Swan Mountain Road. Get back on the bike path on the right just past the light. Turn right at the T behind the High School to rejoin the main path. Follow along behind the Hospital before finishing in Frisco.
