Breck Snowflake Challenge Is Underway

Image
The Annual Breck Snowflake Challenge is underway and while we don't have pictures yet to share for this year's event - since it's just getting going - we can share some in-progress photos below from a previous year's contest. (We'll post photos of completed snow sculptures and the winning teams in our January ENewsletter.) We are always impressed with the sculptures our local talent brings to the table. Take the time to stroll Main Street later this week and cheer on the snow artists as they tackle the elements to create their own snow art masterpieces. Last year's record early season snowstorms helped create the perfect canvas for the sculptors, while this year the artists have to work a little harder to find large amounts of snow. It's all part of the challenge and fun and we're sure our sculptors will not disappoint. If you can't stroll through town this week (finished sculptures will be completed and judged on December 16), be sure to check bac

The Peak 8 Ski Area (as it was first known) opened on December 16, 1961 with one Heron double chair and a midway unloading station in addition to one short learners T-bar . Some fun history facts from Breckenridge’s first 50 years: • Breckenridge has received approximately 17,500 inches of snow (1,416 feet) since the resort opened in 1961. • Breckenridge has welcomed visitors from all 50 U.S. states and over 60 different countries, cementing the resort as truly a global destination. • Breckenridge has hosted approximately 39 million skiers and snowboarders s
