Warren Buffett Just Made Another Huge Bet On The U.S. Housing Market

This past spring, we reported on a bet the legendary investor, Warren Buffett, made on the U.S. Housing Market. In the article,  Buffett stated he would buy up a million homes if possible .  He voiced his confidence in housing coming back and addressed positive shifts in real estate. Now, continuing to show his faith in the US Housing Market, Buffett has been buying up real estate brokerages around the country. Along with partner Brookfield Asset Management, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices is a new franchise brand in residential real estate. A press release says the brokerages that will make up the new company did a combined $72 billion in sales in 2011.   Buffett has been public about his bullish housing call for a while as he's built his residential real-estate brokerage business, but this is a big addition. What Does Warren Buffett Have To Say About The Real Estate Market?

Warren Buffett is betting on the Housing Market, according to his February 27, 2012 letter to his shareholders at Berkshire Hathaway. Buffett states in his recent shareholder letter, "Housing will come back – you can be sure of that. Over time, the number of housing units necessarily matches the number of households (after allowing for a normal level of vacancies)." "For a period of years prior to 2008, however, America added more housing units than households. Inevitably, we ended up with far too many units and the bubble popped with a violence that shook the entire economy. That created still another problem for housing: Early in a recession, household formations slow, and in 2009 the decrease was dramatic."
