Breck Snowflake Challenge Is Underway
The Annual Breck Snowflake Challenge is underway and while we don't have pictures yet to share for this year's event - since it's just getting going - we can share some in-progress photos below from a previous year's contest. (We'll post photos of completed snow sculptures and the winning teams in our January ENewsletter.) We are always impressed with the sculptures our local talent brings to the table. Take the time to stroll Main Street later this week and cheer on the snow artists as they tackle the elements to create their own snow art masterpieces.
Last year's record early season snowstorms helped create the perfect canvas for the sculptors, while this year the artists have to work a little harder to find large amounts of snow. It's all part of the challenge and fun and we're sure our sculptors will not disappoint. If you can't stroll through town this week (finished sculptures will be completed and judged on December 16), be sure to check back here next month to see the Snowflake Challenge results. A $1,500 cash purse will be awarded for 1st place and there are cash prizes through 4th place.
The Breckenridge Snowflake Challenge, December 9-16, (not to be confused with the International Snow Sculpture Championships, ISSC, Jan. 24-28, 2012) is produced by Breckenridge Associates Real Estate and the founders of Breckenridge’s International Snow Sculpture Championships as a means to develop a new generation of snow artists. Last year's Breck Snowflake Challenge winner's, Team Breck, went on to place 3rd in the ISSC.
