Secret Stash - 2012 International Snow Sculpture Championships

January 24 marks the return of the annual and much anticipated International Snow Sculpture Championships (ISSC). Artists will spend 65 hours carving 20-ton blocks of snow into awe-inspiring masterpieces. Snow sculptors from around the globe will make Breckenridge their home during the event, taking place January 24-February 5, 2012. The competitive field is made up of 15 teams this year and the talent pool of sculptors will be exceptional as most every team has medaled in competition before.

The International Snow Sculpture Championships will again be cast under a LED-lighting display as introduced last year, illuminating the sculptures and giving a different perspective to the event. We highly recommend checking out the snow sculptures in the evenings throughout the event for the opportunity to see the creations in this beautiful display of light.

Sculptors "live" in the area around the Riverwalk Center grounds at 150 West Adams Avenue, Breckenridge. Artists sculpt from Tuesday, January 24 at 11:00am until Saturday, January 28 at 10am and spectators are welcome each day throughout the event. Judging is at 10am on Saturday, January 28. The awards ceremony is at 3:30pm on Sunday, January 29 and sculptures will remain standing *weather permitting* until the night of Sunday, February 5, 2012 (until approx. 11pm). Budweiser and Cadillac are the signature sponsors this year.

The International Snow Sculpture Championships is especially close to the hearts of all of us at Breckenridge Associates Real Estate. Two of our Partner/Brokers, Rob Neyland and Ron Shelton were among the event's original founders. Rob and Ron along with Partner, Tom Day have been key in the ISSC's success from its inception. With many years of snow sculpting under their belts, they have most recently created and produced the Breck Snowflake Challenge (just wrapped its 4th year running), a fun locals' snow sculpting competition taking place each December. The event serves to nurture and develop a whole new pool of local snow sculpting talent in hopes of elevating the local playing field in the ISSC event each January. Last year, Team Breck made its debut in the Breck Snowflake Challenge in December and later landed a Bronze medal in the January International Snow Sculpture Championships.
